Objectives

The participant:

• Gains a deeper understanding of the most important levers for cost optimisation in the AWS public cloud and can later apply this knowledge in their daily work.
• After this training, you will be able to:
  • Conduct your own analyses using CLEA.
  • Use best practices as input for your projects.
  • Use cloud resources and services in a more targeted and cost-efficient manner.

• Cost Allocation and Transparency | AWS Organizations, Billing, Cost Explorer – How are costs allocated to AWS accounts and monitored?
• AWS Discount Models | Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot and more – What discount options are available and what are they used for?
• Compute | EC2, ECS, Fargate, EKS, 4Wheels – Which compute services are used at BMW and how can they be optimized?
• Storage & DB Services | S3, EBS and RDS – Which storage services are used at BMW and how can they be optimized?
• Networking Services | VPC, Gateways and more – Which network services are used at BMW and how can they be optimized?
• Other cost-relevant services | Glue, CloudWatch and KMS – Which Analytics Services are used at BMW and how can they be optimized?
• Outlook | Roadmap and challenges – What are the next steps?

Target Group

• This course is for individuals who want to develop a deep understanding plus practical experience in the topics cost optimization in the AWS Public Cloud and usage of the CLEA Tool (Cloud Efficiency Analytics). They should have experience with CLEA and the AWS Management Console.

Prerequisites

To be eligible to enrol into this course, you must have completed the following courses: 

• XLAB - BMW Cloud Potential AWS (ITEM_37009)
• WBT - XLAB - Finops Fundamentals Self-Learning Course (ITEM_80063)
• Participants should already have a good understanding of and hands-on experience in the AWS Public Cloud. They should have worked with CLEA and the AWS Management Console.
